Terms of Use
The basics of using our site, joining our programs, and supporting our mission.

Welcome
These terms apply when you visit xceptionalheroes.org, sign up a Hero, apply to volunteer, become a member, make a donation, or otherwise use our services. By using the site, you agree to these terms. If you don’t, please don’t use the site.
Xceptional Heroes is a Michigan 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 87-3448617) serving young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Greater Flint / Genesee County.
Eligibility & participation
- Our programs are designed for young adults age 17 and up with intellectual and developmental disabilities. If you have additional physical needs and would like to participate, please reach out — we’ll talk through what support looks like.
- Heroes under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian complete the application and sign all consents on their behalf.
- Volunteers must complete a volunteer application that includes background-check authorization, code of conduct, image release, and liability waiver. Volunteer participation is at our discretion.
- The participation waiver is renewed annually. We’ll let you know when your renewal is due.
Using the website
When you use the site, you agree to:
- Provide accurate, current, and complete information on any form you fill out.
- Keep your account credentials secure and not share them with anyone else.
- Use the site only for lawful purposes — no harassment, fraud, attempts to access other accounts, or interference with the site’s operation.
- Respect the privacy of other Heroes, families, and volunteers — anything you see in the portal is intended only for the people involved.
Memberships
- Membership is offered at $25/month or $250/year. Members attend standard activities at no extra cost; non-members pay a small per-activity fee. A new Hero’s first activity is always free.
- Monthly memberships renew each month, and annual memberships renew each year, unless you cancel. You can cancel at any time by emailing info@xceptionalheroes.org — your membership remains active through the end of the current paid term.
- Membership fees are generally not refundable, but we will refund a charge if you contact us promptly and we agree it was made in error.
- Special outings (for example, Tigers or Firebirds games and theater trips) carry their own ticket cost, which we share with you before you sign up.
Donations
- You can give a one-time gift or set up a recurring monthly gift. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by U.S. law; we’ll send you a receipt.
- Recurring gifts continue until you cancel. You can cancel any time by emailing info@xceptionalheroes.org .
- Donations are generally not refundable. If you believe a charge was made in error or you intended a different amount, contact us promptly and we’ll do our best to make it right.
- Card processing is handled by Stripe. Your card number is entered on Stripe’s checkout — XH never sees or stores it.
- Tribute gifts (in memory of, or in honor of, someone) are honored as you direct on the donation form.
Forms, waivers & image releases
- The volunteer application and Hero application include the participation waiver, code of conduct (volunteers), and image release. Submitting the form constitutes your electronic signature on each section.
- You may decline the image release without affecting eligibility to participate.

Intellectual property
- The Xceptional Heroes name, logo, tagline, and the text, images, and design on this website belong to Xceptional Heroes, unless credited otherwise.
- You may share links to pages on this site freely. Please don’t republish substantial portions of our content elsewhere without our permission.
- By sending us a photo, story, or testimonial, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use it in our materials — website, social media, newsletters, and printed pieces — to share what we do.
Disclaimer & limitation of liability
The site is provided “as is.” We work hard to keep it accurate and accessible, but we don’t guarantee it will be available without interruption or that the content will always be current.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Xceptional Heroes is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising out of your use of the site or our programs. This does not limit any rights you have under Michigan law that cannot be waived.
Participation in our activities is governed by the participation waiver each Hero signs at registration and renews each year.
Account suspension
We may suspend or close an account if these terms or the volunteer code of conduct are violated, or if it is needed to protect the safety of Heroes, families, volunteers, or staff. We’ll do our best to explain why first.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan. Any dispute will be brought in the courts of Genesee County, Michigan, unless we both agree to another forum.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. The current version is always posted here with its effective date. If we make a material change, we will let registered Heroes, families, and volunteers know by email.
