Steven Provost

PROVOST, Steven “Steve” Lawrence – of Davison, MI, age 71, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00-8:00 PM on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Madden’s Lounge, 809 N. State Road, Davison, MI 48423. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Xceptional Heroes, in Steven’s memory.

Steve was born in Flint on February 16, 1955; he was the fourth child of six children to the late Lawrence and Eleanor (Swain) Provost. He grew up in Davison most of his life and loved Northern Michigan. Steve spent half of his retirement in the Cadillac area as well. He married Katrina Turkovics on May 17, 2002. Friends introduced them in the early Fall of 2000. He always said she was the best catch of his life. They were to celebrate their 25th Wedding Anniversary next year. Their union brought him great happiness and joy, another daughter and a loving family who adored him like their own. Steve and Katrina had many wonderful adventures; he was able to go on a dream trip with his father and brothers-in-law to Alaska, fishing for Halibut and King Salmon in 2010. From a young age, Steve could always be found outdoors. He was an avid hunter and master angler. Even as a little kid you could find him fishing on a lake, river, pond, or creek. Fishing was something he loved, not just for sport, but also where he found solace, and he enjoyed the quiet. As a young man, it became his mission to find every fishing hole he could in Michigan. He succeeded too. Steve even managed to get on most of the private lakes. He tested every lure, rod, and reel made, and collecting vintage fishing gear became a hobby for him. In 1983, he had the special honor of being on the cover of Michigan Out-Of-Doors magazine.

Steve was knowledgeable about many things and was a jack of all trades, tinkering and fixing broken things with his ingenuity. He always had a way with people, it didn’t matter how old you were; he would find a way to connect with you. An old soul with a quiet but large presence who had a great gift for humor and was truly a jokester. He transitioned after retirement into a natural caretaker/nurturer, always helping his adoring Mother and father-in-law, and often donating his time at various places that support Senior Citizens, lending a hand to anyone needing help.

Steve worked for General Motors until he retired in 2008 from Truck and Bus, Flint. He enjoyed many friendships over the years there and was a very proud UAW union member. During his retirement, Steve began woodworking and truly became an artist. He loved to carve fish decoys, beautiful wooden bowls, turtles, cutting boards, and other beautiful treasures that he and Katrina would take to craft fairs over the last 10 years.

He was the proud father to Tonya and Dan Provost, and Katelyn Boyer. He talked about them often and was exceedingly proud of their achievements. One of the most rewarding roles in his life was becoming a grandparent, and he loved being an uncle. Steve adored his grandbabies and never missed the kids’ games, performances, or an opportunity to teach them things he knew. He was always moved by any kind of struggle or suffering in the world and had a deep sense of justice and empathy. Steve was one of a kind and had a kind soul, who gave from his heart. He will be greatly missed and remembered by those who knew him always.

Steven is survived by his loving wife, Katrina Provost; daughter, Tonya Provost; son-in-law, Michael Hawkins; son, Daniel (Jessica Cavanaugh) Provost; daughter, Katelyn (Scott Byrne) Boyer; grandchildren, Ava Hawkins, Lorelai Provost, and Maverick Byrne; siblings, Jeffrey (Robyn) Provost, Cynthia (Chuck) Wright, Dennis (Lorraine) Provost, Lori Wright, and Jody (Cheryl Fortner) Provost, Ramona Turkovics, Calvin (Julia) Turkovics, Mark (Paula) Turkovics; and a legion of nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Eleanor; grandmother, Mildred Swain; in-laws, Fred and Rosalie Turkovics; aunt, Bettie Hacker; nephew, Chad Provost, niece, Janel Provost, and many other loving family members and friends.
